(Raid on) Logistics in the Twin Cities

Tonight, the convergence space in the Twin Cities was raided by police officers brandishing a warrant to search for materials that they didn’t find. Afterward, they used the entry as an excuse to harass, invade, and repress the activists gathered there. This post was originally drafted to be a simple introduction to the logistics work done in Minnesota in preparation for the RNC — but as we were preparing it, news of the raid reached us (via Twin Cities Indymedia’s rss feed) and we had to quickly append this note. Read the RNCWC’s Press Statement for more info.

As tension builds in the Twin Cities, we thought it would be fun to share one of our contributions to the logistical organizing of the RNC Welcoming Committee. There should be no doubt that members of the RNCWC in Minneapolis/St. Paul have done an incredible job meeting the larger anarchist community’s enthusiasm for convention resistance. We were happy to pitch in by helping design some of their logistics literature.

We’re not trying to boast, though—we’re making these screen-readable .pdfs available to help those who can’t be there understand as much as they can about what’s going on there while events unfold.

Expect Resistance Reviewed

It took 8 months, but we now have some actual print reviews of Expect Resistance to put up—over on the Expect Resistance reviews page, we have fresh reviews from Fifth Estate, The Indypendent and Last Hours from the UK. There are a slew of choice quotations, but I’m particularly fond of two: “Longer, deeper, higher and heavier.” and “The overall quality of the book, from layout to binding to inks to image registration, could only be compared to that of heavy art tomes, and clearly reflects a love for the craft that measures on the Richter scale.” Just to be thorough, there is also an entertaining review on a blog here.

Blue & Green Are the New . . .

After many years and hundreds of thousands of stickers, we’ve changed the colors on the back of our This Phone Is Tapped stickers from orange & black to Spring Bud Green & Civil Twilight Blue—we fully expect these new colors to be twice as effective. [I know, I know, it's not that big a deal—unless you spend 300 days a year stuffing them into packages.]

9th Printing of Gender Poster

Click to Play

The 9th printing of the Gender Poster was completed yesterday morning—which happens to be almost exactly the 5th anniversary of the first printing of the Gender poster. That’s about 175,000 copies in 5 years, which we consider a pretty decent start, and worthy of celebrating with an over-the-top video.

Incredibly excessive photo documentation after the jump.
