Rolling Thunder #5 Delayed

We’re finally in the editing process of the now overdue issue of Rolling Thunder, though it will still be some weeks before it goes to press. The contents of this issue are shaping up to be really exciting; we hope it will be well worth the wait, and that in the future we can stick to a strict six-month schedule.

To account for our tardiness, we claim extenuating circumstances: we’re just now concluding work on what will be our most ambitious publishing project yet, and it has sapped time and energy that would otherwise have gone into the magazine. Expect more news about both soon.

Letterpressed Postcard

postcard-detail-small.jpg

Here are some fancy pics of a fancy postcard we recently printed on the letterpress in our garage. The excellent thick and recycled paper scraps we printed on were provided to us years ago as leftovers from a Stella Marrs printing, so these were basically free to make (hours of labor donated by yours truly). One goes out in every paid order, we have a few hundred left, so it’ll last a few more weeks. Thanks a million to Richard Olmstead for his original art.

Contest Winners Announced

After 148 emails with over 250 corrections in the last week, the contest is now over. Blair was our first place winner with 108 excellent corrections, leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. The second place position was much tighter with four people very close and Vincent just beating out the pack for second place. Due to their valiant effort, we decided to give a consolation prize of $10 credit at our online store to D, Laurence, and Breck. Thanks to the two-dozen people who participated, we can all now enjoy a significantly less error-riddled site.

Desperately Seeking Under the Lens

under_small.jpgDistraught CrimethInc. workers are desperately seeking a copy of Under The Lens Of The People: Our Account Of The Peoples’ Resistance To The FTAA, Quebec City, April 2001, which we need to proceed with our current epic publishing project. If anyone has a copy of this book or knows where one can be found, please get in touch with us (pfm@crimethinc.com) immediately. Borrowing it—or perhaps even receiving top-quality scans of pages over the internet—would probably suffice. We really count on the international network for help with challenges like this. Thanks so much in advance! [Yes, we know Amazon and AK Press both list it as available—it's not.]

Now Shipping to Everywhere

For years, it has been a challenge to send packages to a long list of countries (including Italy, Greece, Argentina, Israel and many others) due to Global Priority Mail service being unavailable to those countries from the US. Fortunately, when the US Postal Service restructured their international mail classes in May of 2007, Global Prioity Mail was replaced by Priority Mail International which opened the service to nearly every country (Somalia, North Korea and Cuba—sorry, but apparently you are still in the dog house). Our new website revision has been adjusted for this and getting our stuff to many countries has become a lot easier. Hooray.

Now Featuring Lightfast Ink

lightfast-police-sticker-compare.jpg

We’ve switched the color inks on the newest printings of all our stickers from ol’ normal ink to a special lightfast ink that resists fading from sunlight. Most stickers that get put up don’t last long enough to fade, but it has been brought to our attention that when given the chance to fade, they will. Problem=solved.

New Website and Contest

After six years without any significant changes, we are very proud to debut this third revision of the CrimethInc.com website, rebuilt and hand-coded from scratch through nine months of tireless toil. It features a more inviting and less obtrusive aesthetic, an entirely new navigation scheme and tightly integrated search function, more and higher-quality PDFs, a totally revamped texts library, a polished and expanded downloads area, extensive and high-quality photos of our various projects, a re-tooled and super-fancy online store, and a regularly updated and fully integrated blog.

You can just click around to get acquainted; or, if you’d prefer a more structured tour, we’ve created a Site Guide that discusses the process and motivation behind the redesign and also provides a basic walk-through of the new features and functions. We are super anxious to hear your feedback, so please leave some comments.

We are also holding a contest that begins today, the prize of a Ne Plus Ultra Edition of Days of War going to the two people who find and report the most errors on this website in the next seven days.

Contest Guidelines after the jump.

2007 Convergence Coverage

We have completed a comprehensive reportback from the 2007 CrimethInc. convergence in the form of a list of discussion questions:

Under the Big Tent:
Discussion Questions following the 2007 CrimethInc. Convergence in Athens, Ohio.

We humbly entreat anyone who was involved in the convergence to read this and offer their own perspectives in the comments for this post. Thank you!

New Walls Are Alive Paper

walls.jpg
A newly reformatted version of the classic The Walls Are Alive graffiti guide is now available in a similar format to our A Civillian’s Guide to Direct Action, maximized for table-appeal and cost-effective distribution. 25 copies will run you $2. A Guide Mix Kit of The Walls Are Alive and A Civillian’s Guide to Direct Action is also now available, 25 papers (a 12/13 mix) for $2. You can grab the hi-res PDF, free-of-charge, right here.

Speaking of PDFs, sadly this announcement also serves to notify you that DIY Guide II is no longer in print. To date we’ve distributed more than 60,000 of them into the world, and due to its disproportionately high-cost of printing, we feel at this point it is best presented as a free PDF in our downloads library. Enjoy and use well!

Froseph’s Deep Breath CD Released

Froseph CoverAfter an agonizingly long delay caused by preparing this new version of the website, we’re thrilled to finally make Froseph’s new album, Deep Breath, available for mailorder.

Harmonizing surprising vocal stylings with a dynamic assortment of instrumental tactics, Froseph takes both an aggressive and soft spoken approach with the songs on Deep Breath. It’s both slow and fast-paced, smooth and rough, coping with deep rooted insecurities and confronting a long avoided past of sexual abuse, denial and their affects on everyday interactions while simultaneously constructing a sense of optimism and buoyancy. Recorded over several months in his basement bedroom with a laptop and a microphone and packaged with a plastic-free case that was hand-letterpressed in our garage. Sample songs here.

Old Site News Archive

With the new version of the website, we’ve lost our news section, instead posting the news updates to this blog section—this means there is no easy way to get to the old news archives. So, we’ve put all the news postings from 2000-2007 on one page, for posterity’s sake; just in case you were looking for them.
