Seattle, Seven Years Later

n30.gifOur CrimethInc. cell is delighted to commemorate the seven-year anniversary of the historic Seattle WTO protests with the release of a new publication, N30: A Memoir and Analysis, with an Eye to the Future. This 64-page treatise draws on the perspectives of anarchist rioters and corporate think tanks alike, supplementing them with maps, forgotten archival material, and contemporary critique to present a coherent, comprehensive picture of what took place in Seattle and how that affected the course of history. Download the e-book and/or replication-ready versions here.

Here follows a selection from the afterword, which briefly addresses the successes and failures of the “Seattle model” of struggle and the extent to which it remains relevant today.

Oaxaca Timeline

oaxaca.jpgIn response to the urgent demand for literature regarding the current situation in Oaxaca, Mexico, we’ve made a PDF timeline briefly summarizing the chain of events available in 11×17 poster format. Please wheatpaste and distribute throughout your neighborhoods!

These events and more have been documented in photographs here. Read more about it here.

Daniel McGowan and Codefendants Accept Non-Cooperation Plea Agreement

For those who haven’t heard already, the four remaining Operation Backfire defendants (aside from the fugitives) who have consistently refused to inform for the government have accepted a plea agreement in which they plead guilty but under no obligation to inform on anyone but themselves. Their suggested sentences range from five to eight years, but they could still receive up to twenty more years under so-called “anti-terror” rules, so it remains critical that they continue to receive support. These defendants could not have taken their guilty pleas in a more principled way; their courage stands as an example for us all.

More thorough coverage can be found at Infoshop. The plea bargains are online at Portland IMC.

Nov. 20: Day of Worldwide Direct Action in Support of Those Struggling in Oaxaca

ass1.jpgOn November 20, blockades will be set up to show the Mexican government we mean business. We are calling upon YOU to join in these blockades. That could mean blockading the consulates’ websites, jamming their phone lines with calls about the conflict in Oaxaca, occupying the offices of the consuls, or shutting down the roads around the consulates in whatever way you see fit.

On October 27, paramilitaries in Oaxaca, Mexico murdered Indymedia journalist Brad Will. He is one of dozens who have lost their lives at the hands of pro-government forces while participating in the largely nonviolent resistance to government oppression in that region. Mexican president Vicente Fox used Brad’s death as a pretext to send 4,000 federal police into the city of Oaxaca; these forces are systematically brutalizing the population.

The people of Oaxaca have not backed down – through days of courageous fighting, they have managed to protect their radio station at the university, repelling machine-gun-wielding armored police with only sticks, stones, and hope. On November 5, tens of thousands marched through the streets of Oaxaca, calling for the federal police to leave.

South Carolina CrimethInc. Convergence

southcaro.jpgCalling all South Carolina Radicals!

South Carolina may be better known for Strom Thurmond than Denmark Vesey, but somewhere in this right-wing morass there exist isolated patches of wild-eyed maniacs hell-bent on anarchist revolution.

A collection of CrimethInc. agents across South Carolina is inviting friends and others in our fair state to join us for a weekend of experiential resistance this Friday, November 17 through Monday, November 20 in Charleston, SC.

Building off of and further towards a regional Southeast Anarchist Network, we hope to use this gathering to discuss operations we have undertaken over the past year–from anti-fascist actions to mountain justice summer, and other conspiracies–as well as develop our relationships with one another and lay plans for the future. We are sure people in this state have similar frustrations and also really awesome insights about organizing in this weird place, and we hope to take this opportunity to share with, network, and inspire each other.

Politics, Police, and Washing Your Dishes

silence.gifBetween grieving for our murdered comrades and plotting to prevent further such murders, some of us have finished three humble new projects, which are now at your disposal in the downloads library:

DON’T TALK TO POLICE OR THE FBI
Though directed at activists at risk for being harassed by the morons in suits, this poster is a useful reminder for anyone who may at some point be questioned or threatened by the bullies in blue. Our fates and those of our comrades are in our hands, not the hands of our enemies.

WASH YOUR OWN DISHES
Long in the coming, this poster fits neatly over the sink to remind housemates and guests of the anarchic virtue of cleaning up after oneself. To illustrate this point, it offers a hilarious review of how the dishes get washed under every political/economic system from Libertarianism to Anarcho-Primitivism. The illustration is taken from the highly recommended pamphlet Abolish Restaurants, available from prole.info.
